Veterans Forward Marine On Board

| Read Our Blog Read Our Blog Blog Veterans Forward: Marine on Board Kat Schaeffer November 10, 2015 Veterans Forward, Workforce zero When I exited the Marine Corps in 2011, I never thought that I would find yourself working in workforce growth and helping veterans find civilian jobs. Now that I am, I couldn’t be happier that that is the place I’ve ended up! After serving, I spent three years earning my Bachelor’s Degree, I took benefit of as many internships, work and volunteer alternatives as I might. When I started my job search the semester before I graduated, I thought that with a Bachelor’s Degree, five years of real-world work expertise in the Marines, and the extra expertise gained from volunteer work and internships in college, that employers can be keen to offer me a mid-degree job with a aggressive salary. That was not the case. Instead, I found that almost all employers didn’t perceive how my time in the military had prepared me for the corporate world. I didn’t know how to discuss my navy expe rtise in a way that precisely represented all the priceless abilities I may bring to an organization. So, a few weeks earlier than graduating â€" with no different employment options â€" I accepted an entry degree job, making lower than I was after two years of service within the Marines. I spent 15 months working this job before I found the place with the Veterans Forward staff at National Able Network, and I immediately utilized for it! While I was excited about the position and the work being accomplished right here at National Able Network, I will admit that I didn’t understand how really wonderful this staff and group was until after I accepted the position. After being at Able for almost two months, I have seen how actually succesful this group is of helping veterans translate their army service into a language that civilian employers communicate and helping them make their profession search more environment friendly and efficient. This staff is dedicated to helping veterans discover stable employment after serving their nation, and I am thrilled to be a part of that mission! Thank you for your service, Kat!
